Welcome to the “Life in the Swimlane” blog series. Here we will feature interviews with Swimlaners to learn more about their experience. This series will give you a preview of Swimlane, our culture, and the people who keep us going.
Hi, I’m Ryan. I’m native to Hampton Roads and have landed in Norfolk, Virginia with my wife Chrizar and our daughter Anya. I attended Old Dominion University and received my B.S in cybersecurity and computer science.

How long have you been with Swimlane?
I joined Swimlane in June of 2019 as a DevOps Engineer.
What does your job entail?
My team including myself are responsible for maintaining all things infrastructure – From Cloud Providers like AWS to On-Prem. We take an active role in monitoring and analysis of hosted products in Turbine Cloud. In addition to that I am often tasked with projects that are meant to streamline our software development life cycle from development through deployment.
What do you enjoy most about working at Swimlane?
The autonomy afforded to me through remote work has dramatically increased my quality of life. I’m encouraged to work when I am most productive. Working with my colleagues always feels like we’re working toward a common goal.
What excites you most about your work?
Being able to take part in scaling an on-prem only startup into a fully fledged production product is an invaluable experience. Hosting SaaS applications comes with many challenges to overcome and there’s no better way to learn than to dive in.
What do you like to do when you aren’t working?
When I’m not building multi-tenant SaaS applications, I’m building a bench for my wife’s garden. I’m always taking things apart and sometimes I put them back together. This past year I’ve spent many days with my daughter at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens.

Are there any clubs, volunteer/awareness groups, or social movements you’re passionate about?
Mosquitoes are a group effort. Get to know your neighbors and make sure there’s no standing water. Mosquito dunks if you have to. If we all do our part, together we can eliminate mosquitoes from our backyards.
What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know?
I have a 98% win streak on NYT’s daily Wordl.
Your motto or personal mantra:
Whatever it is, leave it better than how you found it.
What Swimlane core value resonates with you the most?
The Honesty and Integrity value is my favorite. Not only because “All the Things” tickles the 2010 internet humor part of my brain but also because you should feel good about the work you do and that requires both honesty and integrity.
What type of impact do you want to leave on our industry?
Cyber Security sometimes feel archaic and backwards. It doesn’t have to be, it can evolve and modernize but still be secure.
