Understanding High-Impact, Low-Code Security Automation

A Day In the Life with Senior Product Manager, Joy Bishop

2 Minute Read

Hi I’m Joy, I live in Denver, Colorado. I grew up and went to school in NYC, craving a change – I moved here in 2008 and haven’t looked back since.

How long have you been with Swimlane?

I have been working at Swimlane since March 2022.

What does your job entail?

Oooof probably a little bit of everything haha – my favorite part of being a product manager is the inherent dynamic nature of it, I get to do such a variety of cool things with talented Swimlaners across the entire company, there’s never a boring day. Right now, I primarily work with our engineering delivery teams to build product features for our Turbine automation platform: in the course of doing that, I frequently interface with customers and users on product roadmap discussions, design reviews, and problem-solution discovery. I also get to do deep dives on technical implementation details with our talented software engineers. I recently also started working with our leadership and sales teams on evolving our monetization strategy.

What do you enjoy most about working at Swimlane?

In short, it just comes down to I get to do what I love and I get to do it with some awesome people. It’s also incredibly challenging and rewarding to work on a sophisticated SOAR platform that is pretty much endlessly configurable and extensible, this comes with a unique set of challenges and problems to solve.

What excites you most about your work?

My favorite part would have to be seeing a team of people come together to create something new or solve a problem together. There’s nothing quite like being a part of a highly motivated team of talented people.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?

I love to run into the Colorado mountains whenever I’m not working – usually it’s to do some hiking or rock climbing with some friends. I am also trying to follow more digital minimalism in my life – less scrolling, more reading.

What are you passionate about?

I would love to help support more women and more diversity in tech, especially in the cybersecurity field. I really believe diversity in thought and talent enables us to be more creative and in turn more powerful in how we think and how we solve difficult challenges.

Your motto or personal mantra:

“The most effective way to do it, is to do it.”

Three words that best describe you:

Honest, driven, thoughtful

What Swimlane core value resonates with you the most?

My favorite has to be “Be a Happy Innovator”. Mindset is everything.
