Life in the Swimlane with Product Designer, Vivian Lee

Welcome to the “Life in the Swimlane” blog series. Here we will feature interviews with Swimlaners to learn more about their experience. This series will give you a preview of Swimlane, our culture, and the people who keep us going.

Hey, I’m Vivian! I’m currently living in Atlanta, GA and I went to college at Georgia Tech. I’ve been with Swimlane a little over one year now. As a Product Designer, we wear different hats depending on the day. Sometimes, we’re wearing our researcher hat, and looking into the good and bad of how others have tried to tackle the same problems we are working on solving. We talk to our internal experts and users to discover what their frustrations are, and how we can address them. Other times, we’re wearing our design hat. This means we’re brainstorming, wireframing, and mocking up some really cool things for the look and experience of the Swimlane Turbine platform.

What do you enjoy most about working at Swimlane?

I know everyone says this, but definitely the people I get to work with. I love my team and I love how passionate everyone is about what they do. Everyone is really open and understanding, and there’s truly no such thing as a “stupid question” here. It’s a very collaborative environment across the whole company.

What excites you most about your work? 

It’s never boring, that’s for sure. There’s always something new to work on, new people to talk to, and new problems to solve. I know we’re working on something that’s meaningful and will have an impact, and that always motivates me to try harder.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?

I like to chill and hang out with friends and family. We usually go out and try new places to eat or check out new spots around town. I also go to a dance class during the week, so it’s been cool trying to learn different choreographies.

What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know?

I play the ukulele!

What Swimlane core value resonates with you the most?

I would have to say “always be leveling up”. I’m constantly asking myself what I can do to grow. Also, it’s honestly exciting that there’s always something new to learn both in the security field and the design world. Our team is committed to sharing new knowledge with each other all the time. We have a lot of fun with it!

What type of impact do you want to leave on our industry?

I truly want us to make the best automation platform out there. I often think that good experiences and good design get left out of very technical spaces, and I know we can change that! 🙂
