A Day In the Life with Tier 3 SOC Analyst, Vin Munk

I’m Vin (he/him)! I live in the Tech Center area of Denver with my best friend, a Doberman mix named Benelli. I have an Associate’s degree and gunsmithing certificate from Colorado School of Trades, and I most recently got my diploma from SecureSet Academy which landed me in cybersecurity.

How long have you been with Swimlane?

I’ve been with Swimlane for three fantastic months.

What does your job entail?

I get to play with the product that we create here. Using Swimlane, I monitor and respond to alerts that come our way for just about anything that has to do with cybersecurity, and we’re looking to do some automation of our physical security environment as well.

What do you enjoy most about working at Swimlane?

I love the culture here. Everyone is so friendly and looks out for each other. It’s really fun to come to work and see people happy to be doing what they’re doing, and they’re REALLY good at what they do!

What excites you most about your work?

My entire career has been fighting the bad guys whether it was in the sands of Iraq as a Marine or the streets of Denver as a Denver police officer. It’s really fun to be able to still fight the bad guys in a safer environment, and use my intellect more. The AC is better in the office than in the Humvee for sure.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?

Wind Therapy. I skydive (indoor and outdoor), ride a sport motorcycle, and I recently bought a Jeep Gladiator that I love to drive with the top off. I love hockey in the winter (Go Avs! We want the cup!) and I’m looking forward to taking the Gladiator into the mountains for snowboarding. I’ll probably put the top back on though.

Are there any clubs, volunteer/awareness groups, or social movements you’re passionate about?

I love to do volunteer work related to my motorcycle whether it’s a toy run for Children’s hospital, or looking out for my fellow veterans with Patriot Guard Riders. I’m hoping I can get into some Jeep groups as well and see where that takes me.

What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know?

I’m an EDM DJ at local clubs here in the Denver area.

What Swimlane core value resonates with you the most?

“Always be leveling up” This is one of my favorite parts of working here. I get to learn new stuff constantly. It’s like drinking through a firehose sometimes, but I smile every day waiting to see where I’ll grow next.

What type of impact do you want to leave on our industry?

I want people to have peace of mind knowing that my team and I are on the job keeping them safe and sound.
