Why Malaysia is Ready for Security Automation Solutions
Anyone who works in cybersecurity is painfully aware of the industry’s skills shortage. It’s one of the most difficult industries to find and retain qualified talent. Those who already work in the industry experience burnout at a rapid pace due to the high volume of manual work, task switching, alert fatigue, and process complexity.
According to the 2021 World Economic Forum (WEF) report, the global cybersecurity gap is roughly 3.12 million people. While this is undeniably a global challenge, the Asia Pacific (APAC) region feels this problem more acutely than the rest of the world. It is estimated that the APAC region alone is short 2.045 million cybersecurity professionals. This means that APAC’s cybersecurity workforce gap accounts for 66% of the global talent shortage.

How Security Automation Helps
While security automation does not replace the analyst, it does help alleviate the pain of the global cybersecurity skills shortage. It frees analysts’ time previously spent on manual, repetitive, and error-prone tasks so that they can focus on more strategic work.
Low-code security automation, more specifically, is designed to enable anyone – from the most junior security analysts to line-of-business leaders – to participate in building security automation.
Swimlane’s low-code security automation platform is poised to be part of this solution that helps secure the APAC businesses, like our customer Lumen. To bring our solution to the APAC market, we are excited to announce our partnership with CyberSecurity Malaysia. While we do business across all of APAC, we decided to focus on the Malaysia market as our regional hub.
“This partnership with Swimlane is timely for CyberSecurity Malaysia and will help to establish and extend strategic cybersecurity vision in the region. Together, Swimlane and Cybersecurity Malaysia will bring their respective knowledge, experience, capabilities, and products to offer innovative cybersecurity solutions in Malaysia. As the national cybersecurity specialist and technical centre, CyberSecurity Malaysia welcomes such collaboration as it provides Malaysia with advanced technology, capability, and capacity to ensure our cyber environment reliable, safe, and trustworthy.” said Dato’ Ts. Dr. Haji Amirudin Abdul Wahab, CEO of CyberSecurity Malaysia.
Why Malaysia
Malaysia’s geographic location near Singapore makes it an ideal geographic location for connecting with business partners and customers. The country has a well-established network of partners, like CyberSecurity Malaysia, and reliable infrastructure which make it easier to do business here. Most notably, Malaysia does offer more access to security talent than other regions of Asia, making the adoption of new products in the region easier.
“Organizations need to be equipped with the right technologies and insights to respond to security threats and speed up incident response, which is where Swimlane can assist APAC customers. With Swimlane’s expansion into APAC, we intend to replicate our global success in low-code security automation and analytics across various industry verticals in this region,” said Johan Wikentsted, Regional Vice President of Sales Asia Pacific & Japan.
APAC Customer Success
APAC customer, Lumen, manages two security operations centers (SOCs) in the APAC region by leveraging Swimlane. Their scale and business growth made it impossible to scale without security automation. Watch this short video to hear from Wai Kit Cheah, the director of the security practice at Lumen Technologies, to hear about why he selected Swimlane as Lumen’s security orchestration automation and response (SOAR) solution.
“We wanted a solution that was easy to manage, support, and operate. We also wanted a partner who could provide the technical support that we needed in the region. Swimlane was very responsive. The platform was easy to deploy and set up.”
A Buyer’s Guide for Modern Security Automation
Enterprise SOC teams recognize the need for automation but often struggle with the automation solutions themselves. Security Orchestration, Automation and Response (SOAR) solutions commonly require extensive scripting. This guide analyzes the wide range of security automation platforms available today, so you can identify the type of solution that fits your needs the best.
