Welcome to the “Life in the Swimlane” blog series. Here we will feature interviews with Swimlaners to learn more about their experience. This series will give you a preview of Swimlane, our culture, and the people who keep us going.
My name is Abby Shapiro, and I’m a Customer Success Manager here at Swimlane. I’ve been with Swimlane since December, 2023. I grew up in Dayton, Ohio and moved to Colorado for school. I graduated from the University of Colorado, which is where I met my husband. We lived in Denver for 10 years and moved back to Boulder County in 2018, where we live with our 3 year old daughter, Ellie and our dog, Hank.
What does your job entail?
As a Customer Success Manager, I’m responsible for managing the relationship with a subset of our current customers. I always tell my customers that I’m really a “catch all” for anything Swimlane, and if I don’t have the answer, I’ll find the people who do. I focus on ensuring our customers find value and success with Swimlane – and that they renew.
What do you enjoy most about working at Swimlane?
The people! We have an amazing team here, and I really enjoy everyone that I work with. I was able to attend our Sales Kickoff about a month after starting, and was so impressed with how friendly and outgoing everyone was. Every person I talked to really took an interest in our conversation and made me feel like a part of the team.
What excites you most about your work?
I honestly love building relationships with my customers. I try to connect with my customers on somewhat of a personal level as well, and focus on being as transparent and upfront as I can – which I think goes a long way with building trust. I always tell my customers that I want them to tell me the good, the bad and the ugly, and that their honesty and feedback is the only way we can improve.
What do you like to do when you aren’t working?
I like to spend time with my family – my weekends are usually spent outside, cooking or checking out one of the local breweries in Longmont. I love to travel and explore new places as much as possible and can’t wait to start bringing my daughter along on these trips so she can start seeing the world (once she’s old enough to remember them). My husband and I are both CU alumni, so we try to make it to a few Buffs games every year.
Are there any clubs, volunteer/awareness groups, or social movements you’re passionate about?
Our Center in Longmont and I’m really passionate about LGBTQIA+ and women’s rights – really anything that spreads a message of equality and inclusivity.
What’s are some fun facts about you many people may not know?
I’m related to Colonel Sanders from KFC – unfortunately, not a close enough relative to get any discounts.
Your motto or personal mantra:
You don’t have to, you get to.
Three words that best describe you:
Loyal, independent and determined.
What Swimlane core value resonates with you the most?
Honesty and Integrity in “all the things”.
What type of impact do you want to leave on our industry?
I hope that my customers and coworkers look at me as a resource who is always here to help, and someone who is a reliable person who is looking out for the greater good of not only my customers but my colleagues. I also love knowing that I’m a part of a growing group of women in the cybersecurity industry – I like to think that this will show my daughter that she can do anything she puts her mind to!
