Welcome to the “Life in the Swimlane” blog series. Here we will feature interviews with Swimlaners to learn more about their experience. This series will give you a preview of Swimlane, our culture, and the people who keep us going.
Hi – I’m Lindsay Jones and I’m the Director of Service Operations at Swimlane! I currently live in the Greater Seattle area with my husband, Dallas, our two dogs, Baloo and Spur, and soon to be daughter, Kennedy Grey (anticipated to arrive April 2024).
I grew up pretty much everywhere! My father was in the military for twenty years therefore I relocated every one to two years with my parents and two siblings. I wouldn’t trade my childhood for anything. I enjoyed moving around with my family and it allowed me the opportunity to explore cultures around the country and the world. However, I do claim Washington as my home state since my parents have lived here since my father retired in the early 2000s and I also attended the University of Washington, Go Dawgs!
Before coming to Swimlane, I was in the United States Army as a Military Intelligence Officer for nine years. I loved the Army but it ultimately did not lend itself to my priorities; raising a family in a location that best suits our needs and wants.
How long have you been with Swimlane?
I have been with Swimlane for about 18 months – time flies!
What does your job entail?
As the Director of Service Operations, I work with the ultimate dream team – we help deliver the product through implementations to our customers and end users. We help make their vision come to life. My focus areas are primarily project management, resource management, and operations process development.
What do you enjoy most about working at Swimlane?
The people. Every day I am surrounded by bright, motivated, and kind people. It encourages me to put my best foot forward. I will be honest, I was initially nervous to be a part of a remote climate. I assumed it would be challenging to build a cohesive team, but I was proven wrong.
What excites you most about your work?
The growth. I am a tangibles gal that appreciates independence and creativity. My position has allowed me to strategize with different people at all levels, innovate new processes, and execute a process I helped develop that improves not only our quality of life, but the customer experience. The growth, no matter how big or small, is inspiring and keeps me focused.
What do you like to do when you aren’t working?
My husband and I love all things outdoors (very Pacific Northwest of us) – cycling, hiking, backpacking, skiing, camping, etc. We also love to travel, I think between the both of us we have visited almost all fifty states and fifty plus countries. I think one of my favorite trips was visiting Vietnam – the people are incredibly tenacious and kind, the culture rich, and the food delicious. I enjoyed the thrill of riding my scooter town to town and nearly escaping death. When we aren’t on the go, we spend the remainder of our time with our family (we have a lot of nieces and nephews).
Are there any clubs, volunteer/awareness groups, or social movements you’re passionate about?
I wish I was a better person and could say yes, but I do have a long term goal of finding a Veteran focused volunteer group now that I have left the service.
What’s are some fun facts about you many people may not know?
As a young child I bore an uncanny resemblance to Lord Farquaad from Shrek. Or if you are familiar, the Starburst Berries & Cream guy. Additional fun fact, if you’re on Slack at Swimlane and look up Emoji “Berries” my face pops up. You’re welcome.
Your motto or personal mantra:
Be Better, Do Better.
Three words that best describe you:
Ambitious, Independent, Thoughtful.
What Swimlane core value resonates with you the most?
Always be Leveling Up.
What type of impact do you want to leave on our industry?
I think the intent is to always make something better than you found it, with a large focus on the people. As with any successful organization, people can be our greatest asset. If you build the right team, empower them, invest in them, that is where change, growth, and success happen.
